Latest AA Readme File (6.0) - Latest Dev Readme (6.0) - Latest Unit Guide (6.0)
What is Absolute Annihilation? Among the most important changes are those to the resource system, with the addition of several new energy and metal production buildings for both Arm and Core. No 10,000 energy, 10,000 metal-producing "death star of teh rage and boom" that renders all previous buildings useless though. In addition to the resource system changes, AA also features many visual enhancements, such as improved models, better textures, and new animation. There are no "duplicate" units in AA, such as you'll find in many other unit packs. No 3 submarines that all do the same thing, have the same armor, wildly varying cots, and are all useless. No units "just for the sake of units". No gimmicky animated textures that hurt your eyes. No outrageously overpowered units - at least, not without due cost and build time. In short, none of those things that eventually make you say "no X units allowed!" when playing multiplayer. The Absolute Annihilation project has been in development - off and on - for over five years. With the signs of Uberhack's impending end, I finally decided to release a few preview builds to the public. These met with limited success because of stability issues. 3 years and I still hadn't made it stop crashing!! Happily, since then I've gained a lot of experience and stability has improved consistently with every new version, with the latest ones being completely crash-free. The latest versions should, in fact, be more stable than Cavedog's 3.1c.
The Future? Absolute Annihilation will remain a strong, active project for the foreseeable future - that is, at least until I finish typing this page. Hopefully much longer.
Why AA? Better stability, improved gameplay, a growing community, and most importantly, the fact that you can directly influence the mod's development. With every project I've managed, I've always tried to be a reasonable person, open to good suggestions regarding future goals and short-term changes. As a result, if you post an idea on the forum and back it up with logical reasoning, it'll probably be implemented in an upcoming build. I'm making this mod for the community, not my own gain. If the consensus was that the Commander should be a flying pink brick with ears, well, you'd have it. |
